X X @RT32008750 6h Since Bret Easton Ellis and Ryan Murphy are both seasoned rockstars in their respective crafts, I was expecting more from this TV production. But it turned out, Murphy's idea of sinister yet sexy gore didn't quite fit the Ellis's contemplative yet very emotional story that managed to describe the sentiments of the '80's teenagers with such a surgical precision, you genuinely start seeing your younger self in all of them. The two giants, while having all the necessary tools to shock the audience in both opposing senses simultaneously at their disposal, failed to keep the story both in Murphy's style - sharply cynical and gory and in Ellis's style - tender and having a profound sympathy for the vulnerable characters while exposing their blatantly obvious unforgivable sins to the audience at the same time. However, even considering all the show's shortcomings, it is still a high quality show, much deeper and much more exciting than most of those we see today, so four stars anyway. Its basically about some super priviledged teens living the life in the early 80s. And when I say super priviledged, image son of Donald Trump type priviledged. A story about a group of upscale 80's private high school friends is very nostalgic and interesting. In typical Murphy fashion it has violence, perversity, and very iconic looks at key elements of the decade. The cast is great. Young, talented, sexy, and fun to watch. My biggest issues are that it is too long in spots and the dialogue is unnecessarily melodramatic in spots. Visually good. Music perfect. A scary nemesis side by side with precarious adolesence and adults as a mixed bag of unreliable, indifferent, well meaning. This show has monotone high school teens, no adults on screen, a villain who seems like any other rich so cal kid.
