The obvious comparison here is Bridgerton, but My Brilliant Career feels more spiritually attuned to Sofia Coppola’s lovingly observed films about girlhood, The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette. Go to Full Review

There are many people to credit for this buoyant “Brilliant Career,” including its developer and co-writer Liz Doran. But it is Philippa Northeast as Sybylla who is the shiny thing from which we cannot avert our eyes. Go to Full Review

If you’re a fan of the novel and regard it as a sacred set text, I can imagine that these changes may be hard to stomach. ...As a way of introducing Franklin’s likeable heroine to a new audience, though, this series is a charming coming-of-age tale. Go to Full Review

My Brilliant Career is a fun series that’s made very watchable by Philippa’s Northeast’s lead performance. At times, it tries to get a bit too stylish, but those moments are outweighed by the story and performances. Go to Full Review

My Brilliant Career doesn’t feel as fresh or revolutionary as its heroine, but it’s a worthy watch for fans of historical dramas and romances alike. Go to Full Review

SUSAN W @RT39370393 1h Absolutely love this production!! Acting and cinematography is outstanding. Highly recommend! See more Michele A @Rt567678904321 1h Even at 6 episodes I'm not sure I can handle another "must get married" period drama. Yes, the protagonist is extra-rebellious, but until she sets fire to something I feel like it's just the same old same old (Bridgerton). See more Gala Z @Galaa 5h Felt like the love triangle got too much focus. The plot wasn't engaging enough. The cast is good but the material they had to work with was lacking. See more Jasmine G @JasmineG 8h The added love triangle feels unnecessary and takes away from what made the original story so compelling. Expanding Frank’s role shifts too much focus toward romantic drama, when Sybylla’s independence and ambitions should be at the center See more V. T @RT04452764 9h Pilippha Northeast is a star! Although it has a lot of differences from the book I like the modern aspects and how nuanced the characters are so I don’t mind the changes. It’s a fun show to watch on a weekend. See more A J @AJ-200 10h I really enjoyed this. The cast was great and I liked seeing into Australian society at that time, which hasn’t been shown much, or at all previously that I am aware of. I also appreciate how it gave us a glimpse into the racism of the time, I would actually love a series about Nell and Betty. Their story was particularly compelling and appealing to me. Overall a great show that seemed to made with a lot of love and care. See more Read all reviews
