The first 3-4 episodes were ridiculous car chases and action movie shenanigans while the most recent episodes have mostly been drama that has let the cast's natural talent shine. I'm not sure if either of these variations is the true Lucky experience or if it's just going to continue trying to be a mish mash of these very different styles but I'd much prefer it to be like the more recent episodes going forward. Far too much dialogue, painfully slow pacing and very little tension. Annette Bening’s Priscilla is just odd, and her performance felt strangely stiff. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as FBI Agent Billie Rand was badly miscast. For someone meant to be a strong, commanding agent, the character lacked presence and simply wasn’t believable. Even Timothy Olyphant as Lucky’s father didn’t really work for me. The standouts were Anya Taylor-Joy as Lucky, Drew Starkey as Cary and the woman who helps Lucky while she’s on the run. They felt far more natural and engaging. Taylor-Joy absolutely carried the series. For such an impressive cast and a premise with so much potential, Lucky ended up feeling badly miscast in several key roles and far more drawn-out than it needed to be. What started out interesting became slow, dialogue-heavy and increasingly boring. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s well written, the acting is excellent, and the story has kept me hooked from the beginning. If you enjoy a good drama with plenty of action and suspense, I’d definitely recommend giving Lucky a watch.
