The Davisons, an upper-class family, are extremely wealthy -- but also estranged. In an attempt to mend their broken family ties, Aubrey and Paul Davison decide to celebrate their wedding anniversary by inviting their four children and their children's significant others to their weekend estate. The celebration gets off to a rocky start, but when crossbow-wielding assailants in animal masks suddenly attack, the Davisons must pull together or die.

Given its title, you can be forgiven for assuming that Adam Wingard's home-invasion thriller will be just another blood-soaked body-count flick. But You're Next is better than that. A lot better.

You’re Next is an entertaining flick with a good cast having a good time playing an assortment of unlikeable characters. This tight and confined chamber piece has wit and ingenuity, offering up an assortment of stand-out moments and wince-inducing kills.

Manages to not only be a genuine tribute to the strengths of the home-invasion subgenre, but also finds ways to circumvent those tropes, delivering something that's a delight from start to finish, while also offering up genuine tension.

The movie sells itself as a generic, self-serious home invasion movie, when in fact 30 minutes in it turns out to be a funny, imaginative twist on the trope. Go in blind and give it a chance.

Highlights - Clever Twist: The screenplay is a razor-sharp twist on a familiar formula, subverting audience expectations in a satisfying way. - Empowering Final Girl: Sharni Vinson's Erin is a phenomenal and empowering "final girl" who turns the genre on its head. - Relentless Direction: Adam Wingard's direction is confident, stylish, and full of kinetic energy. Criticisms - Thin Motivations: The killers' motivations are a bit thin, and their execution is comically inept. - One-Dimensional Characters: Most of the family members are archetypes who exist to be dispatched in spectacular ways. Verdict You're Next is a smart, brutal, and endlessly rewatchable horror-comedy that's a must-see for fans of the genre. With its legendary final girl and wicked sense of humor, it's a modern cult classic and a ridiculously fun time.
