Critics Consensus

Where Is Kyra? rests on Michelle Pfeiffer's magnetically raw performance -- and lives up to it with a trenchant, hard-hitting story.

"Where is Kyra?" is a small story - there's much about its main character that we'll never know - and a terribly sad one. But it's a remarkable showcase for Pfeiffer, who'll break your heart in every scene. Go to Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle Apr 12, 2018

Pfeiffer is good - she's always good, and raw, and effective - but watching her here is like seeing her under glass from a block away. Go to Full Review Justin Chang Los Angeles Times Apr 12, 2018
This woman may be lost to the world, but in Dosunmu's quietly shattering vision, she is also unexpectedly, triumphantly found. Go to Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Oct 4, 2019

If one gets a sense of being consumed by the film's crushing tone and impeccable sense of ambience, Dosunmu and Picoult deliver a dynamite third act climax. Go to Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies Mar 1, 2019

A compelling, nuanced character study of an unemployed woman who once lived a comfortable life and now finds herself teetering dangerously close to the poverty line. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

keven Q @kevenquinlan 2 days ago I like Michele but this movie Sucked. The critics are nuts and the 53% of the audience is out to lunch. MUNDANE. Drab. It's like Factotum, but even less interesting. Or like The Secretary. I get she is in a state of struggle- well, welcome to everyone's world in the 26'. I was bored and hating it midway through and it never improved. See more Diaulas F @RT13630323 Mar 1, 2025 Um filme fabuloso. Pfeiffer deveria ter sido mais reconhecida por todos por esse filme. Ela teve uma de suas mais perfeitas atuações. See more Alec B @Alec97 Jan 5, 2024 The ending is so depressingly inevitable, but that's the point. Pfeiffer is just so, so good here. See more Jerod S @jeroduptown Apr 15, 2022 Pfeiffer's lost her mom, and her light in this movie. She's desperate for money and dresses as her mom to get $ and stay afloat. Not sure where the "hard hitting" drama comments come from - it's a flat plot. See more Mar 1, 2020 Another Dosunmu masterpiece. See more May 24, 2019 Horror film to say the lease .
