After a catastrophic military disaster, the dead don't just rise -- they hunt. The military insists they are harmless and slow-moving, offering hope to grieving families. But when Ava (Daisy Ridley) enters a quarantine zone searching for her missing husband, she uncovers the horrifying truth: the undead are growing more violent, more relentless, and more dangerous with every passing hour.

Critics Consensus

Anchored by Daisy Ridley's magnetic performance and a grimly inventive premise, We Bury the Dead keenly uses familiar zombie tropes as a framework to deliver a beautifully shot, emotionally resonant meditation on loss and grief.

Horrors interrogating grief may be everywhere, but Ridley’s quiet performance is worth it.

If you turned it off five minutes before the credits roll, this would be a solid four-star movie.

Grief as a subject for horror cinema has become a cliche, but We Bury the Dead at its best is getting at something more specific...

Even with its shortcomings, We Bury the Dead is a thoughtful and restrained addition to the zombie genre. It may not reinvent the undead, but it uses them as a means to explore something far more intimate and universal.

What sounds like a typical zombie flick is anything but.

A taut tale reminiscent of The Walking Dead or our own post-apocalyptic antipodean horror The Quiet Earth, it deals in effective chills, rather than full-on undead action.

I think Hollywood needs to rethink horror movies. I get it that it’s supposed to make u jump but this one kisses the mark. I need g become a movie screener to make sure quality goes out to the public.

This is not your typical action zimbie film, it's more of a psychological sad thriller.. sometimes things that can happen to you are worse then death. You follow Ava a wife determined to find her already most likely dead husband. She signs up for body identification and removal.. as we follow her on this journey you see parts of her life with her husband unfolding and it becomes more clear why she wants/needs closure. She enlist's a partner to help her on her way. Because of course the path is forbidden and blocked. They made some interesting choices.. the zombies looked cool but only bit their own teeth. Which definitely got to ppl with the grinding.. almost like the creepy grudge kids sounds.. if their wasn't the few laugh out loud moments and little twists it probably would have sucked.. Fun fact.. they did indeed bury the dead. 2.5/5

Not your typical zombie movie but in a good way. Definitely more of a heartfelt drama than horror. The story keeps you interested & the acting is good.
