Critics Consensus

Stranding Ice Cube in an inept screensaver with wall-to-wall product placement, War of the Worlds will make audiences consider giving peace a chance instead.

To some, War of the Worlds is a branded empty package; to others, it’s a sci-fi guilty pleasure treasure that proves the old adage right.

The plot is ludicrous, the filmmaking sloppy, the performances disconnected. It’s a true desktop disaster.

Don't let the noise fool you. This corporation-coddling remake is so unparseable you'll actively wish it were worse -- or just over.

The screenplay by Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman gets overcomplicated because they’re desperately reaching for something to spice up Ice Cube staring at a computer at his desk.

Where other films built around screens like Searching and Missing were able to make what could be a bit of gimmick work, War of the Worlds is just a dull disaster from start to finish.

War of the Worlds attempts to boldly adapt H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic for the modern age, the way that your digestive system boldly adapts a five-course dinner into excrement.

This was painful. It was boring, had terrible graphics and performances, and felt overlong despite being less than an hour and a half.

The fact that Robbie survived at the end after getting annihilator by the armada of tripods is the ultimate culmination of Spielberg's work. This movie sucked. 👎

Easily Cube’s worst movie in his filmography. The visual effects are laughably bad, the acting is horrendous, the editing is distracting, and the plot is stupid! I was rooting for Cube playing a different role than usual, but this movie SUCKS! I’m talking SHARKNADO territory! 1/10!

Who else was so excited to go see ice cube in front of a screen for basically the entire movie cause it definitely wasn’t me. This movie is God awful. Whoever decided to make this movie. You are a very dumb individual.
