Ambitious and visually stunning, Tomorrowland is unfortunately weighted down by uneven storytelling.

The much-hyped film itself feels overwhelmingly bland... I hope there are some young girls out there will take heart in seeing a heroic, science-loving teen girl onscreen. For everyone else, can I recommend staying home and reading Ursula Le Guin instead? Go to Full Review

The point of Tomorrowland is to encourage youngsters to think out of the box, stay positive and never give up. It's a sweet and inspirational message buried in a mire of cryptic plotting. Go to Full Review

Thinly veiled beneath the powerhouse studio running the show, Disney's "Tomorrowland" is your new lightning rod between poignant and preachy. It is, with absolute certainty, an enormous message movie hiding behind a summer blockbuster. Go to Full Review

Amilia G. @RT47271030 5h I will be so for real, I love this movie. It’s apart of my top 10 movies of all time. I understand why most people aren’t a big fan of it. It’s not very thick with story and plot, and the characters are flat. But I loved it. As a kid watching this movie it showed me what could be in the future. How if you care enough you can make the future amazing. The movie promotes imagination, and future. So even if you are an adult who isn’t a big fan of flat story’s show it to your kids. It shows your kids what the future can be. I mean floating pools? Amazing. Jet packs and intergalactic space travel? 10/10 ideas. So show it to your kids. They are the future after all so show them what the future could be. See more P H @RT26026737 Apr 1 Tomorrowland is one of Disney’s most creative and original films in years. I haven’t seen anything like it since Tron. I don’t understand why this film didn’t succeed. Maybe it was overshadowed by other movies in theaters at the time, because it has a level of creativity and visual spectacle that I hadn’t seen from Disney in ages. On top of that, while it’s inspired by the original Tomorrowland park, the film transforms that idea into something tangible and real. It’s a genuinely delightful sci-fi adventure to watch, and I don’t think it has received fair criticism for its performance, because the film itself is fantastic. I especially appreciated the "make the world a better place" message, which encourages both adults and kids to contribute to a better world. Plus, the technology and city are absolutely gorgeous. I’d give it 5/5 stars, and I’m really hoping they’ll make a sequel with a bigger budget! 🙃 See more Tabs W @tabsers Mar 3 "In every moment, there’s the possibility of a better future." This made me feel more like a Disney adult than ever. I squealed when "There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" started playing. I almost cried during the World’s Fair scene. The "It’s a Small World" sequence is INSANE, and I can’t wrap my head around how it was done. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Pierce Gagnon is the best child actor I’ve seen in any movie. He plays his role so naturally and believably. Raffey Cassidy nails it too as Athena. And on that note, most of the other acting… is incredibly subpar. Also, this is a very bleak movie overall, which makes me REALLY sad. Tomorrowland at Disneyland is so fun and exciting (well, it’s intended to be), and the World’s Fair is supposed to represent hope for the future. I don’t understand why they took the "the world is ending in two months" angle. The overall message is hopeful — about building a better future — but the general plot is what makes it so depressing. See more Danny P @Danny88 Feb 16 As the end credits for "Tomorrowland" roll, displaying the literally thousands of skilled professionals who worked to help bring this film to life (including reportedly over 500 in visual effects alone), one is immediately struck with the thought: Did anyone -- anyone at all -- recognize what a hot mess "Tomorrowland" was becoming as they were putting it all together? The plot is convoluted. The dialogue is flat, boring, uninspiring. Not a single lead acting performance jumps off the screen, with development of secondary characters virtually non-existent. The "message" of the film is heavy-handed, even for those who care deeply about saving the blue whales, the black rhinos, the red wolves and the brown spider monkeys. When "Tomorrowland" thinks it's being clever or cute, e.g. the appearance of R2-D2 in the "Blast from the Past" shop, it's really just being trite & ho-hum obvious. And all those laser blasts from "futuristic" rifles seemed to suit a purpose more goofy than gallant. See more KerryWhite's S. @KerryWhite77 Feb 12 Rating: 7/10. 72/100 See more Read all reviews
