Critics Consensus

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri deftly balances black comedy against searing drama -- and draws unforgettable performances from its veteran cast along the way.

McDonagh takes the audience's loyalty and swings it around, taking you on an emotionally volatile, but fascinating, drive-by in rural America.

Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri unfolds as a typical revenge vigilantly ploy, and could have stayed so under normal direction and screenwriting. Instead, it gets turned into one of the best pictures of the year.

If Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri carries a lesson or otherwise some underlying thought, then it must be that the abusers of power are struck and wounded, too, and that forgiveness and understanding offer a difficult, if imperfect, salve.

don't read any spoilers, don't think about the plot, don't even watch the trailer if you can: just get yourself a ticket and go see this film. I guarantee it will be one of the best movies you will see this year.

When the pressures of guilt and honesty are applied to its many characters, their truer traits and flaws come to the surface like rain drawing out new blooms of promise or the nightcrawler worms of hidden ugliness.

Totally sublime. This is what good movie making is all about. Interesting characters, good script, phenomenal acting. I really loved this movie. How the writer turned an incredibly awful series of events into a comedy with such skill and wit is amazing. The leads really nailed their parts. I'm very late to the party on this one. I think the strange title turned me off sadly. Best movie ive seen in ages.

8.4/10 Drama, Mystery Good movie Movie about a woman whose daughter is raped and burned alive. She puts up billboards that infuriate the local police department. Small town vibe, incompetence. Woody Harrelson is in it.

An absolute firecracker of a movie that has so much to say and yet does it in not so many words. The Dickson character arc will stay with me for a long time to come
