See more Kevin P @RT55971421 Jan 11 Such a gorgeous and emotional powerhouse rooted in Japan's oldest recorded folk story. The movie is animated with a beautiful watercolor brush painting art style. It has rich themes about true happiness and the restrictive expectations and objectification of women. The soundtrack is phenomenal and the voice cast is great. It's really charming watching Kaguya's childhood in the countryside. Soon the father becomes misguided about Kaguya's divine origin. He loves her, but he abandons the friends and connection to nature that made Kaguya happy in the first place in order to pursue wealth and nobility. I love the rapid art style shift when Kaguya runs away from her own party. I'm glad that Kaguya got to reunite with her old love one last time. It makes you mourn for the happy life that they could've spent together. We get such an emotional beautiful ethereal ending that will make you cry. It's such a thoughtful conclusion about the beauty, hardship, brevity, and cyclical nature of life. While Spirited Away is Studio Ghibli's magnum opus, The Tale of Princess Kaguya is their most powerful and best overall.
