While it offered some worthwhile information, its alarm over "hoaxes" and "conspiracies" ultimately fell flat, as many claims it dismissed later turned out to be true. A U.S. Senator even joked, "Seems to me we need some new conspiracy theories. All of the old ones have turned out to be true." In that sense, social media proved more helpful than harmful—often exposing errors in narratives promoted by so-called experts. There are real concerns about surveillance and privacy, yet instead of focusing on them, the documentary leaned into its own ideological propaganda. It never acknowledged that the real danger in technology has never been the technology itself. The wayward human heart is the true existential threat. From the wheel to the computer chip, every innovation has been used for both good and evil. The threat is not tech, but the bad actors who misuse it—and the only remedy is for good actors to wield it well.
