Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

I'm a fan of both Damon and Affleck, and found the film engaging, yet parts of it were somewhat confusing to watch. I can recommend checking it out because their chemistry is always a treat to watch. Go to Full Review

A Netflix urban cop corruption thriller set in Miami that owes a lot more to the Den of Thieves movies than to either incarnation of Michael Mann’s Miami Vice. Go to Full Review

The Rip is a frustrating missed opportunity. It takes a golden premise and two of cinema’s best friends and buries them under a mountain of plot holes. Go to Full Review

Evan K. @ekny21 1h Entertaining but a bit disappointing. Nothing memorable. Love their chemistry. See more Liam F @Stinging9128 3h Put off watching this for a while waiting on reviews, but it is definitely worth the watch! You spend the whole movie trying to piece together what's going on and who the real bad guy is. It’s nice to get a happy ending, but they wrapped things up just a little too neatly for my taste. A more dynamic true villain and a punchier finale would have made it perfect. Even so, the mystery keeps you guessing. Still worth the watch! See more Rob A 5h An excellent noir thriller with plot twists and turns; only the overly long chase scenes at the end were a blemish (20 minute car chase!) See more Lorry S @Lorz100 8h I didn't think I would like it, but it turned out to be a pretty good story. I don't care for Ben Affleck, but everyone else was good in it. See more Austin J. @Mobile8 21h Good movie with some brain teasers. See more Joe G. @Review_Joe 23h Solid thriller, edge of your seat film from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Kept questioning who to trust and who is the bad guy. I think the chase scenes weren't too exciting. Overall, a good film and reccomended. See more Read all reviews
