What to Know

Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

The film starts off strong, with tense moments and some intrigue, but becomes bogged down by mindless, glossy, Netflix-ized action in its final stretch. Go to Full Review

This movie has a lot of problems...particularly with how slow it is. You get some decent performances from Damon and Affleck but most of the scenes felt empty. Go to Full Review

With a cast of this caliber, this should have been a stronger film. It felt dumbed down and like they held their punches. Go to Full Review

Peter C @Peter407 1d Like MD and BA but this movie was really really bad. See more Joseph F @RT21481084 2d slow at first, but the story is great. AMAZING PLOT See more Zainab M @RT84753918 Aug 7 The duo of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck is always a treat. Their chemistry is undeniable, but unfortunately, the storyline didn’t pack the punch I was hoping for. See more Greg H @Greg5018 Aug 5 Unlikely plot, with exceptionally poor law enforcement tactics and decisions. But with that said, worth a view, though my wife wasn't a fan. Good acting by Afflex and Damon considering all the above. See more Laurel B @LaurelReviews Aug 2 There are some movies and shows you watch that make you wish you could experience them for the first time all over again. The RIP is one of those. I don't usually gravitate towards crime thrillers or heist films, but this was absolutely top tier. Admittedly, I probably would've loved it even more if the good guys had turned out to be the bad guys! And yes, a good chunk of my enjoyment came from seeing Steven Yeun brandishing a weapon again - it definitely brought back The Walking Dead vibes. That aside, this was a genuinely great watch. Tense, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. See more Jeremy K @RT65985226 Jul 31 Bad writing. Completely unbelievable action. Twisty for the sake of being twisty. There’s zero character development so it’s hard to actually care about anybody. See more Read all reviews
