Guided by a local fixer and navigating a complicated cultural and political landscape, Jay begins to learn not only how piracy operates but why it emerged in the first place. Through his experiences with Somali leaders, citizens, and the pirates themselves, he discovers a world far more layered and misunderstood than the headlines ever suggest. The movie tells an incredible unseen side of Somalia and the struggles it faces with western civilization and its often distorted portrayal by the outside world. It also explores how piracy has taken over parts of Somalia while showing that there are different kinds of piracy and different beliefs held by the leaders involved. The film highlights the country’s fight to grow into a prosperous democratic state and the internal battle against the influence of piracy trying to dominate it. It is a riveting story and one the world should know more about. At times, the film feels long and a bit repetitive, and the storyline occasionally veers off on tangents that do not seem necessary to the central narrative. See more Nim T @nimtse 01/22/2024 The movie was interesting as Evan Peters was able to show how a college graduate can transition into a different person based on environment and social atmosphere. Not only was the plot was real, but was well executed with a great supporting actor. It was surprising to see the BAFTA actor that was in Captain Phillips playing a key role in this movie. The chemistry was there followed by the usage of the setting and the people make the film uplifting and not boring. A refreshing film to watch and recommended for people that need some inspiration. This movie was almost 2 hours long when it could have easily been a 60-70 minute watch, max. The needless and unnecessary stretching out and prolongation of the movie made it pretty boring because there wasn't enough meat to fill up all that time. See more 01/30/2021 The Pirates of Somalia is an interesting well-made little film that shows some of the struggles in Somalia. The movie is well acted and interesting but some of the comic relief was not necessary and the movie starts off a bit slow. I wish AL Pacino was in the Film more.
