Can a gaijin ever be trusted like family, or will his motives ultimately be self-serving? It's an interesting question in a story that's otherwise completely devoid of interesting questions, but The Outsider is too enamored with its foreign star.

It's hard to fault The Outsider too much though, as it will predictably fall into the black hole that is Netflix original movies, so here's hoping that Zandvliet, Leto, and especially Hjelm move on to better things in the near future.

This was somewhat predicable however, very well done with cinematography bringing the viewer into the Japanese times (1954) and leaving us rooting for the two main characters who are the most honorable members of the story. If I were to say two things about this it would be thank you and let's have the sequel.

This is my first time doing a review. I'd kept this film on my list of movies to watch on Netflix for a while now, as the description piqued my interest. I'd been shallow enough to not actually watch it for all this time because of the low rating from critics on here. After watching it tonight, I'm going to stop checking a movies critic rating, or at least not let that influence my watching a film or not. The tone, pace, acting, visuals, dialogue, and story were all very cohesive and made up a great film. There were multiple moments that I could really feel the emotions being presented, especially in the silence in these moments. 5 stars recommend this film, it was a refreshing take on the overly saturated "gangster" genre, props to the team involved in its making.

I felt kinda bored, I feel as though jared leto wasnt a good choice, the part he plays seems to be better fitting for a 20 something year old not a 50 year old with botox. Emil hirsch would have been a better selection rather than him playing an unimportant role. The most exciting part of the movie was leto cutting his finger tips off.

It’s a good film. I live in Tokyo, and I will always be an outsider there . I can relate. I could only imagine what it would be like to be to be yakuza an outsider in that organization . This film explores this culture , it’s interesting time period 1950’s Japan
