Critics Consensus

An effective pairing of period setting and timeless themes, The Nest wrings additional tension out of its unsettling story with an outstanding pair of lead performances.

Backed by two exceptional lead performances, and with Mátyás Erdély’s atmospheric cinematography abetting every downward lurch, The Nest holds us in its thrall right from the start.

I watched The Nest in a fixed state of unease, shoulders tense and set forward even in a plush cinema seat, my mouth immediately drying out after each sip of my drink.

There's something commendably old fashioned and decidedly unassuming about The Nest. Durkin's direction is both precise and admirably restrained in its depiction of an era famed for its excesses.

The Nest’s slow build-up may leave you craving more, but the fantastic performances from Law and Coon, and Durkin’s brilliant direction, will more than make up for it.

Great movie just didn't like the ending and feel like it was left unfinished, although moral of the story is very clear

Makes for compulsive watching even as you despair over the protagonist family's self-inflicted misery. The ending, perhaps not the liking of many, is rather apt.

The low popcorn score baffled me until I read some of the reviews and realized nobody has an attention span anymore and need to be spoon fed a predictable ending like baby food lol nevertheless this is a great movie

The trailer didn't grab me, but I'd read enough about it to give it a shot, and glad I did. The plot is almost beside the point. The smoldering emotional intensity kept me rivetted. Excellent performances all the way around.

A reasonable take of faking it till you make it, and what happens to all intimately involved when things don't go as expected.
