Critics Consensus

The Longest Ride is less manipulative than the average Nicholas Sparks film, but it's still saccharine and hopelessly contrived -- not that it'll matter to the target audience.

Unfortunately, Chaplin's brilliance, Alda's funny crustiness, and Eastwood's vulnerability aren't enough to keep this film afloat. Go to Full Review Alison Willmore BuzzFeed News Nov 10, 2015
The Longest Ride is a weak sauce addition to the Sparks empire, a little better than last year's The Best of Me, but miles below uber-Sparks work The Notebook. Go to Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Jun 21, 2015

Like all of Sparks's stories it's corny as hell, but there's an unabashed, old-fashioned charm that gradually warms the cockles and moistens the eye. Go to Full Review Andrew Galdi Movie Bitches May 27, 2020

[T]he movie is painfully cliched, poorly written, and so ethically skewed that I take strong umbrage to its message. Go to Full Review Avaryl Halley Movie Bitches Mar 27, 2020
It needed more tragedy... it's a Nicholas Sparks movie after all! Go to Full Review Read all reviews

James E @Cacyclist Sep 20, 2026 Amazing story and very well acted. Happy to have had the opportunity to watch this. See more Lee R @LeeLeeR Sep 9, 2026 I really enjoyed this movie.. it had a beautiful interwoven story of love. And in a world full of chaos and many movies that are often dark and violent, I find myself looking for movies with kindness and lightheartedness and this movie left me feeling satisfied and happy! See more Katherine V @KittKat Aug 14, 2026 It definitely made me feel good. I enjoyed the story and acting. Absolutely worth the time. See more ben F. @BenFranz Apr 18, 2026 A solid 4. Ok so it's not the Notebook or Bridges of Madison County but come on with the bad reviews. It was a feel good pleasant love story well worth watching. See more Phillip P @Phillip87 Jan 18, 2026 I'm not really sure what the Critics were doing but don't believe any of the crap they are spouting. There's no way this movie should have gotten a bad review. Maybe a ok but definitely not a bad one. Must be Nicholas Sparks hate. Oona Chaplin and Jack Huston love story was worth admission alone. Throw in Alan Alda, Scott Eastwood and Britt Robertson and that is a great cast. It's a really good movie.
