But once you get used to it, it's not so terrible. The story itself it honestly better than the disney version. It has more elements of the hans Christian Andersen telling (like all the mermaids going to the surface at a certain age and visiting in groups, for example), though not nearly as dark (her tongue isn't chopped off for example). It's not musical, but that's ok, since the original story is very dark and decidedly not musical. Give it a chance, it's a pretty cute telling of a classic.
