Critics Consensus

The Last Letter from Your Lover benefits from solid performances and a striking visual style, although its double dose of melodrama may prove too much for some viewers.

Parallel love stories play out in the 1960s and the modern day in director Augustine Frizzell’s perhaps too effiicient adaptation of Jojo Moyes’s novel.

An adaptation of a Jojo Moyes novel, here's a half-baked movie that offers two love stories for the price of one.

The film is trying both to be a detective story and a torrid romance, but the two sides of the narrative get in each other’s way.

[The performances of the two leads are good but] do too little to ameliorate The Last Letter From Your Lover from the wounds of tropes and conventions.

Jones and Woodley are more than capable of capturing the humanity of their characters... Where the film falls short is in being able to provide any astute or profound observations about the romantic complications that fuel the film's central plot.

Ok I suppose. For a film that sets out only to pull the heart strings it’s fairly tedious and doesn’t pull at them very hard

Watchable, but not particularly good. I thought the acting was decent, but the story was not very good. The characters were not likeable. It is basically just a movie about how a woman cheats on her husband with a guy who previously cheated on his wife and then somehow they are the heroes you should root for. Not worth it.

This was such a good movie! The actors chosen for the roles was perfect, and the two storylines worked so well running parallel to each other. I would highly recommend this movie!
