Frans B @FransB Jul 7 Brilliant! Well written and captivating story. The sheer scale of the production is mind boggling, epic proportions indeed. Animal Logic and Base FX provided critical set extensions, building digital additions onto physical wall sets, extending cliff faces, and rendering chaotic aerial scenes featuring burning hot-air balloons. The Third Floor managed extensive previsualization to map out the camera movements and complex geometry required for battles between real actors and thousands of digital monsters. Easy to see why this movie grossed twice the value of the production budget globally, it was a HUGE success. Amazing cinematography, GCI and visual effects. Stellar cast all excels in character, with Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal adding swagger, flair and charisma. Lots of action of any imaginable kind, drama, suspense, rapid pace, wonder, amazement, fantasy, battles, emotion, intrigue and epic events. It relies SO heavily on 20 million Appalling CGI aliens and indestructible human 'heroes' with superhuman abilities. Just nonsense. I found myself wishing the aliens had won...! Cut the possibilities of CGI and instead start relying on believable scripts, pacing and characterisation. The story is way too predictable from the very beginning and there is absolutely no genuine suspense or tension. Visually.the movie is too much foggy throughout. which gets very annoying. They clearly tried to impress the audience with grand visual effects and colorful army designs. but it still feels completely visually mid and artificial at the end of the day. ​There is absolutely no character development at all. I don't care about anyone on screen because the writing is so flat. Nothing works in this movie and everything about it is just plain irritating to watch. It is a completely soulless and empty monster movie. That's not the case here! The Great Wall delivers what you want to see in a truly entertaining film: great action, great effects, great stars, and a truly great setting. It had Matt Damon in it and scary CGI monsters that looked very much real, and honestly, I couldn't find anything wrong about the movie except for the plot's and characters' lack of depth.
