Critics Consensus

The Death of Dick Long mixes dark humor with provocative ideas to produce a sharp blend that's admittedly uneven but uniquely satisfying.

A lovely film about what you do when you've done something that is unforgivable.

[For] those willing to take the plunge into the animalistically risqué unknown, The Death of Dick Long gallops to the finish line with authoritative tenacity.

At least, The Death of Dick Long is a homecoming for the Alabamian Scheinert that uses his warped view of the place to create a glowing nostalgia and a strong vision for American Indie cinema.

The film mostly works thanks to the cast, who make the characters sympathetic, believable and worth spending time with.

The Death of Dick Long is an interesting diversion for most of its running time, but it's hard not to feel like the filmmakers could have done more with the concept.

1. The movie builds the entire story around evading responsibility for a grotesque crime. 2. For 90 minutes, the protagonists fail in every way imaginable while attempting to cover their tracks. 3. After forcing the user through 90 minutes of this anticipated reckoning, the writer then decides they’ll be caught but there will be 0 consequences. Impossibly stupid, actual anti-art.

What a weird movie. Zeke looked like Brad Pitt and Glenn Powell had a baby. It was only funny because of how sad it was, and how stupid everyone was. Considering where this story took place, I'm sure this stuff happens all the time in real life.

One at first wonders why this is so funny considering the conceit seems so dark. But once you realise where we are the whole thing falls into place and you realise you are in dark humour mode with a side order of grossness.
