'The Braid' never reckons with or acknowledges the fact that the societal expectations this film concerns itself with uniquely impact each of the women at its core with an uneven pressure. Go to Full Review

Colombani pays tribute to the determination of women to overcome obstacles to keep life moving forward; it is inspiring, powerfully familiar, and elegantly made, tied by a traditional symbol of womanhood. Go to Full Review

An epic drama... The Braid takes material that could’ve been straightforward and melodramatic and ensures that the final results are realistic and relatable. Go to Full Review

Berlioz T @Berlioz_the_Toaster 4d The movie The Braid, directed by Laetitia Colombani and inspired by her book, tells us the story of three women : Sarah, a rich canadian lawyer acted by Kim Raver, Giulia, an italian hairstylist acted by Fotinì Peluso and Smita : an indian intouchable acted by Mia Maelzer. Each sees her life changing : Sarah gets fired after she had cancer, Giulia’s family might become broke whereas Smita decides to flee her precarity. Without knowing, they will help eachother in their fight against fate and will spin a braid of solidarity. The plot may seems complicated but it’s really moving. Some shots are very well-done. Along the piano of Einaudi, it makes the storyline very gripping. Each actress is soaked of her character, which provokes our empathy. It’s a thought provoking story who make us question our modern society, espacially for women. I would definitely recommand this movie to anyone who loves drama films with a good message behind Now go watch it you won’t regret it. The plot, the acting and the script were just brilliant. Loved it, totally worth it See more Viktor B @RT68729205 May 21 It is an interesting story about the struggles of different women in various cultures and life phases, and somehow it's still coherent. The best part of the movie for me was the cinematography — the images and scenery were really amazing, and you felt like you were part of the culture, not just watching it on the big screen. The story itself was not really important to me, even though it was well written and engaging, because the focus was more on the personal decisions the main characters had to make and how their families and wider communities reacted. I really enjoyed watching this film, and I think it's worth going to the cinema to let the atmosphere take over you.
