Ari S @Arisuley92 Apr 9 This movie is absolutely pretentious nonsense. It took an hour for something to even happen, the subtle nods before that are obvious and not scary at all. The pacing is this movie is absolutely terrible and boring, and the payoff was not only super obvious but insanely lame, absolute snooze fest. All these people saying it was amazing def. love pretentious, Artsy "horror" that goes absolutely nowhere. A creepy atmosphere doesn't save the abysmal script. I had the pleasure of going into "The Blackcoats Daughter" not knowing anything about the story and I do believe that is the best way to watch it. Religious horror doesn't work for me. The plot seems to be all over the place; I was lost for about 60% of the movie. The ending did not wrap up in a satisfying way and it was upsetting to see Emma Roberts in a movie this...messy. While some of the cinematography was very appealing, the plot really bogged this down for me. Seeing how Kathrine went from a normal girl to an empty shell of a girl in a rapid timeline with very little explanation was upsetting. This movie could've been so much more but ended up falling flat for me. The acting was good, cinematography was good, the design of the devil/demon and even the setting was good but the story, arc, and resolution left me wanting more. See more Daddy D @Drazker Feb 19 Extremely slow burn without any real reward for the viewer, they had the budget to rope in Emma Roberts but clearly lacked the ability to complete a scene without cutting away at a critical moment just to never return to it despite the relentless time jumps. I completely understand the critic/audience gap here as some could see this as a dreadful display of loneliness, creating a situation to seek out malevolent attention.
