Critics Consensus

M Night Shayamalan's The Sixth Sense is a twisty ghost story with all the style of a classical Hollywood picture, but all the chills of a modern horror flick.

At root, his films are patient vindications of crazy faiths, of ghosts and comic book heroes. Loneliness is his theme, and when blessed with courageous performers, as in The Sixth Sense, he can take us just about anywhere. Go to Full Review

You leave slightly asquirm. You know it will linger. It becomes a clammy, chilly movie building toward a revelation that you cannot predict. As I say: I cannot tell you. You'd hate me if I did. I can only say, don't look now, but look sometime. Go to Full Review

All these years later, The Sixth Sense still holds up as an all around great film. The film powerfully portrays the emotional journeys of three separate characters without short-changing any of their stories. Go to Full Review

Mitchell S @Mitchstur 21 hrs ago It's a little slow paced, but overall it's a good premise with a good message and a twist I didn't see coming (no, not Cole seeing dead people). See more Mutant M @RT26461386 1 day ago Completely overrated. Maybe this was fun to watch in 1999 but 27 years later there are way better movies to watch. Generally speaking, this movie is very slow and nothing really happens. Why is everybody saying there is a huge plottwist? Are you guys lobotomized? (If you don't want to get "spoilered", stop reading.) Bruce Willis got shot in the first 10 minutes and in every later scene, he is not interacting with any other charcacter besides a strange little boy, who says he is seeing ghosts. How can this be a plottwist? It's super obvious. See more Darcy J @Darcidious 2 days ago Great horror, great acting, great twists. See more Paul S @PManRager 6 days ago This is one of the most intriguing movies I have ever watched. The story was captivating and intense, and even in its intensity, it was able to warm my heart. I definitely recommend this for thriller, drama, mystery, and paranormal fans! See more Tim B @SlimTim0707 Oct 6, 2026 The Sixth Sense is an exceptionally well acted and well directed psychological horror film with a twist that you may or may not see coming, which may hinge on how familiar you are with other M. Night Shyamalan films. See more Omar A @Mo8ani Oct 5, 2026 A very good movie it was so enjoyable the plot twist made it ten times better and Bruce wills’ acting is amazing See more Read all reviews
