See more 01/12/2013 Finally tackled Miike's Black Society Trilogy awhile back, and found this first film in the series to be a watchable (if unremarkable) gangster tale, but still a decent way to pass an afternoon. Worth a rental. See more 08/15/2012 This is the kind of low budget, hole-in-the-wall, made-for-bootlegging atmosphere that I can't get enough of. It travels a fine line between morally ambiguous neo-noir and flat-out exploitation, but it goes deeper than you'd probably expect, dealing with racial identity and the isolation of homosexuals relegated to cheap subculture in 1990s Japan. The first line says it all: "I know a love story that's both sweet and sickening. That's the way love really is."
