Tarek A @tarekali 1d I recently rewatched this gem. As close to a perfect Victorian thriller as I could gather. This was indeed a game of shadows played across the map of Europe. Moriarty is the genius who could match Holmes in every aspect, and this movie delivered in spades. This is a rare case of a sequel being better than the original. The dialog was witty and sharp, erudite and insightful. Holmes’s powers of observation were stunning, tracing across the entire arc of the movie. As he aptly says towards the end when asked what he sees, he replies, ‘everything. That is my curse.’ This is as good a line as part 1, where he said, ‘data data data, I cannot make bricks without clay.’ Perhaps this is the curse of all savants, the brain that cannot sleep or relate to common folk and ideas. The action scene in the forest fleeing the arms factory is one of the best I have ever seen in cinema period. The score by master Zimmer combined with the slow-motion cinematography was on par; what a show.
