Critics Consensus

Despite some surprising twists, Scream 3 sees the franchise falling back on the same old horror formulas and cliches it once hacked and slashed with postmodern abandon.

Scream 3 often feels like a spectre of slasher-movies past, but it features an engagingly prescient mystery about the dark side of Hollywood, and builds to an enjoyably tense climax in director Wes Craven's version of a haunted mansion. Go to Full Review

Wes Craven seems to have lost the thread of what makes these movies so entertaining, merely hoping fans would appreciate getting another romp with beloved characters. Go to Full Review

SCREAM 3’s flirtation with genuine subversion makes it one of the most interesting — and most frustrating — entries in the series. Considering the circumstances that influenced its production, it’s remarkable that it works at all. Go to Full Review

Mr.Homebody#18 M @MrHomebody 2d Not that bad but not my favorite See more Christian M @chriss17eu 2d ‘Scream 3’ is a film trapped in its own meta-discourse, continuing the deconstruction of horror rules but moving toward a more narrative, thriller-like structure. The mystery outweighs the murders, prioritizing puzzle-solving over visceral impact. Some ideas work, like ‘Final Destination’-style deaths and shifting group dynamics, but the result feels mechanical and predictable. Repetition, forced coincidences, and uneven pacing weaken tension, especially through implausible timing and character protection. Emotional engagement disappears: characters, including Sidney, fail as anchors and become functional pieces within the narrative system. The film introduces a broader subtext about Hollywood as an industry, exploring power structures and moral compromise, with references such as Roman Polanski, but this idea is underdeveloped. Ultimately, ‘Scream 3’ expands its intentions but fails to generate real emotional impact, leading to disconnection and indifference—a vicious circle. See more Jack S @ilikescarymovies Apr 9 i really only like roman and the gale's relationship See more Bruce M @BruceMc Apr 8 Not suspenseful, not funny, not smart. A terrible script and hammy performances. Apparently, the script was made more humorous and less gory following the Columbine shootings; regardless, "Scream 3" is barely watchable and has a terrible third act. And WTF us up with Courtney Cox's hair? See more Charles T. @CharlesGaming1000 Mar 29 I like this movie But this is my least favorite of the franchise funniest of the series to me but there are some Scary Movie type of stuff in here pretty dumb reveal again unfortunately but there are still some good chase scenes and setups and the main character goes through some really real trouble which makes this movie more suspenseful See more Ben W @Username618 Mar 28 I'm perhaps not the target audience. ...
