Critics Consensus

The franchise is showing its age, but Scream 4 is undeniably an improvement over its predecessor, with just enough meta humor and clever kills.

[They've] taken the ideas of the first film and twisted them in on themselves, using the technological advances of the last decade and society's celebrity-obsessed culture to give the series an invigorating kick. Go to Full Review

The meta jokes are funny, the death scenes bring a suitably post-Saw level of gore, and the big twist is the best since the 1996 original. In short: it's a scream. Go to Full Review

Christian M @chriss17eu 2d This one and the first one, the peak of the franchise. Today I see 'Scream 4' as a film that intensifies its legacy from within, driven by constant self-awareness that remains compelling even when it falters. It engages in a dialogue about horror itself, echoing ideas linked to 'Saw', where characters function as moral tools rather than fully psychological portraits, acting as functional pieces within a broader discourse. What stands out is how 'Scream 4' deconstructs and rebuilds itself simultaneously. It anticipates criticism and folds it into its script, appearing aware of both audience and reception. The gap from 'Scream 3' refreshes its aesthetic but not its structure, which it openly recycles. Despite the loss of the original cast’s chemistry and the emotional weakening caused by coincidence-heavy plotting, its meta-layer, direction, and final act elevate it. It remains a self-referential slasher that constantly exposes the mechanics of its own fiction. El villano en esta entrega me pericio muy aburrido y fue la primera vez que me fastidio que utilizaran el mismo cliché. See more Jennifer B @Jlovesjewels4 Apr 11 There is a great feeling of nostalgia in the Scream films, the premise has literally been "done to death", however Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson managed to update the decade old series of slasher films for the Web 2.0 generation, specifically with the aptly and grammatically incorrect, text friendly "Scre4m". Craven and Williamson are adding to the satirical tone of the slasher film with their own flagrant, blood-soaked commentary on youth culture, social media and the pursuit of fame, or Jill Roberts ideal–infamy. See more Maya L @PizzaFromDominos Mar 30 I loved how the third act had 2 parts and we got to see some of Sidney's family life, and I loved how Jill went full physco mode in the third act,but it was a bit obvious that Charlie was a killer, overall great movie though,I would definitely recommend it! <3 See more Charles T. @CharlesGaming1000 Mar 29 this movie does everything the first movie did Just a tad bit dumber Which makes a lot of sense since the scream movie takes reboot topics All of the movies tackles down topics from all movies we love And just gives them a fun little run over The first movie was about slasher in general Second one was about sequels Third one was about trilogies and how they end This one tackles down reboots Great reveals Great setups And greet chasing action sequences again Just you know a tiny bit dumber I love this movie See more Read all reviews
