It has been many years since the Ghostface Killer cut a deadly path through the town of Woodsboro. In order to get over the trauma of those horrific events, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has written a self-help book. She returns to Woodsboro for her book tour, and reconnects with old friends Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette). However, Sidney's arrival also sparks the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney and everyone she loves in danger.

Critics Consensus

The franchise is showing its age, but Scream 4 is undeniably an improvement over its predecessor, with just enough meta humor and clever kills.

[They've] taken the ideas of the first film and twisted them in on themselves, using the technological advances of the last decade and society's celebrity-obsessed culture to give the series an invigorating kick.

There is such a thing as too much meta and, contrary to popular belief, irony is not always good for the bloodshed.

Overall, the film isn’t as strong as the prior three entries and its commentary is not as sharp, but, in its attempt to do something different, it nevertheless feels exciting and unpredictable in a way that we haven’t felt since "2" (1997).

It’s not funny anymore, and simply loses my interest. The twist in the murder reveal is interesting as much.

Ok this one was just dumb. There’s no way that two tiny people the size of Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin could have run around killing full grown men and women.
