The film traces the misadventures of buddies J.D. (Jack Black) and Wayne (Steve Zahn), who begin to suspect that their best friend, Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs), is going to allow himself to be badgered into marrying Judith (Amanda Peet), a woman he doesn't love. They decide to reunite him with his long-lost love from their school days (Amanda Detmer) -- even if they have to kidnap Judith to do it.

Critics Consensus

Dragged down by a plot lacking any sense of logic and obnoxious, unsympathetic characters, this comedy is more crude and mean-spirited than funny.

It's basically a cheerful slob job, one of those slapped-together features so often embraced by teenagers with more disposable income than discernible taste.

A dumb comedy, but older teens may laugh.

This full-throttle sophomoric comedy still feels forced and phony at times, which undercuts the manic efforts of its cast.

The audience is one who needs saving, not the title character, in this latest entry in the look-how-dumb-I-can-get comedy sweepstakes.

58%. 6/13/26. Fairly funny, quite dumb. Not painfully dumb or bad by any means. Solid watch

A pretty good time. I can’t believe they got Ermey to do that one scene though, he seems like the type who would get offended by such a request. 3.5/5.

Funny movie. They don't make comedies like these anymore.

This movie straight up stinks. The cast is so strong, but there are hardly any redeemable qualities. The fight with Silverman's new friends is funny, some of the jokes made me chuckle, but for the most part I was checking to see how much time was left. Also, the ending is ridiculous. Best Character: Sandy Best Quote: "Dude, if you get the nachos stuck together, that's one nacho." - JD Best Scene: Singing with Neil

J.D.: Dude, if you get the nachos stuck together, that's one nacho. Rules to live by.
