Tony Manero doesn't have much going for him during the weekdays. He still lives at home and works as a paint store clerk in his Brooklyn, N.Y., neighborhood. But he lives for the weekends, when he and his friends go to the local disco and dance the night away. When a big dance competition is announced, he wrangles the beautiful and talented Stephanie to be his partner. As the two train for the big night, they start to fall for each other as well.

Every so often a film comes around that seems to have its finger on the pulse of society and it makes such an impact that it changes pop culture. Saturday Night Fever was that film in the late 1970s.

One of the most surprising films in terms of what one expects and what the film delivers. Anyone going into this movie imagining it to be a feel good disco story about love on the dance floor will be 'floored' by the explicit swearing, sex and occasional violence. I saw this film as a young teen. I didn't like it at all. Rewatched it recently and I had more of an appreciation for the grit and the grime of real life contrasting with the powder, paint and multi-coloured lights of the local discoteque.

I love watching classic movies and am able to appreciate there were different perspectives in different times. However, after 20 minutes I had to shut this off because I felt gross continuing to watch it and could not handle how incredibly foul it was. This movie did not age well and thus can in no way be considered a classic. It was disgusting.

Thought it was gonna be a good time but I think it was just made in the past for the past. really cool music but like yhea everybody loves disco, I don't compensate for the fact that the film aged poorly. It's just "straight man fool around and find out but it's okay because boys will be boys" in the end the character is still the same douchebag. Cool but I think I might be too young to be blinded by the nostalgia of the 70' american culture.

Synopsis
