Critics Consensus

Robin and Marian gives the legendary characters a somber sendoff, finding ample success in the romantic chemistry between Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn while yielding diminishing returns in its attempts at relevant satire.

Lester and Goldman must have wanted to out-Kubrick Kubrick. the lack of sympathy for the farmers and the soldiers turns the film into an impersonal essay in carnage.

Robin and Marian is a film that must stand or fall on the strength of its stars. Fortunately, it has two of the best."

The atmosphere is one of melancholy as Lester penetrates through the gauze of fantasy to find the human heart, and softly finds it beating.

Richard Leister directed Robin and Marian, his finest film yet in many respects. He adds his antic comedy to the beginning, but lets love and adventure carry the bulk of the film.

The movie is less nihilistic than simply truthful, an effective rebuttal to the Errol Flynn classic.

Robin and Marian is basically a failure, but it has its moments. Even if we laugh at it more than with it, it isn't boring, and it isn't depressing.

The Last Jedi of Robin Hood Lore. What they wanted to say they didn't say well. Others have done it better. Somewhat faithful to the lore though, with the (spoilers) death of Robin Hood and his return to the greenwood after the crusades. In the end, not what you would expect of these well known characters. All the artsy attempt of an anti-war film that leaves no bittersweet taste, only bitter.

Good chemistry between legendary stars, I liked the realistic, earthy production design, and mature sensibilities, A nice change from the normal Hollywood gloss, Also liked the surprisingly emotional climax.

This was really weak. Two big name stars can't carry the heavy load.

Pretty slow moving with a weird ending. Not a great role for Audrey Hepburn. The love story didn't really work.

A bittersweet ode to an olde romance. Very well done by Connery and Hepburn

Laughable dialog. Poor acting. Laughable sword play. This was a joke right?
