Vincent S @Vin_E_At_The_Movies Jul 13 Yes I know, why make a sequel to a screen horror classic? Well this sequel has great direction, a nice twist at the end I didn’t see coming and great mystery. It has great atmosphere and an outstanding performance (might be better than in the original) by Anthony Perkins. It is also a wonderful drive-in theater movie like the original had to be. What initially seems unnecessary quickly proves otherwise, standing almost at the same level as the original. Its opening, with the iconic shower scene, suggests repetition, but instead becomes the starting point for something with its own identity. Richard Franklin and Tom Holland brilliantly blend Hitchcockian suspense with slasher elements and psychological horror, creating a balanced and intelligent script. Anthony Perkins is the film’s greatest strength, transforming Norman Bates from a mysterious monster into a deeply introspective, contradictory, and even compassionate figure. Rather than focusing on the victims, the film becomes a fascinating character study, humanizing the myth without excusing him. 'Psycho II' doesn’t copy Hitchcock’s classic — it expands it, giving Norman Bates unexpected depth and making his story feel worth continuing. See more Justin T @RT08580778 Jan 15 I think Anthony Perkins’s acting has gotten worse since the last Psycho, there are some moments where his performance is like amateur dramatics. Thankfully Meg Tilly is excellent so it evens out overall. The production quality is much higher than the previous film with far fewer issues with the plot and effects. It also looks really nice, like they have perfected the medium of film. It’s an interesting story and actually a good continuation of the original film but the pacing is not good. They keep hammering home plot points and character decisions. The stabbings are significantly better, really horrible to watch. It’s a fine film, average, less polarising than the first film. I didn’t like the ending, it lacked complexity or any moral cleverness. See more Ronald F @RT59759922 Nov 1 i guess i was roundabout 14-15 when i watched this for the first time, i had a little crush on Meg Tilly and a VHS tape with Psycho 2 and The big Chill on it. Psycho 2 is a great sequel to Psycho, with a great cast (Perkins, Miles, Tilly, Franz, Loggia) twist and turns, off course it did not make the kind of history the first movie made, its just a very good movie.
