Andie (Molly Ringwald) is an outcast at her Chicago high school, hanging out either with her older boss (Annie Potts), who owns the record store where she works, or her quirky classmate Duckie (Jon Cryer), who has a crush on her. When one of the rich and popular kids at school, Blane (Andrew McCarthy), asks Andie out, it seems too good to be true. As Andie starts falling for Blane, she begins to realize that dating someone from a different social sphere is not easy.

Glad to finally see it. I probably would enjoy it more if I grew up watching it. John Hughes was working through stuff in the 80s. If I grew up watching it like Breakfast Club I don't see it.

Its a classic that demands a revisit every couple of years. Absolutely wonderful performances by all. This started my love of 80s rom coms. Its for the ones who are a bit different and dont fit into the cookie cutter world.

It’s a great film, that had some fantastic performances by James Spader, Jon Cryer, and Annie Potts. I was disappointed in how it only touches on poverty and alcoholism, and doesn’t really delve into the toll that it takes on people. In the end, it’s a love story that was well acted and directed, with a fantastic soundtrack.

Synopsis
