What happens when you wake up the morning after leaving the most important rock band of all time? In April 1970, Paul released his first solo album, McCartney, alongside a shocking press release that announced the beloved band had split. When asked what he'd do next, he said his only plan... was to grow up. Man on the Run captures Paul's transformative decade in the wake of The Beatles' break-up. Through stunning archival footage, Linda McCartney's exceptional photographs, and interviews with Mick Jagger, Chrissie Hynde, Sean Ono Lennon, Mary and Stella McCartney, all the living Wings members, and of course Paul himself, the film examines this time through a uniquely vulnerable lens.

You may find yourself wondering why we are going over this ground again, but it's an engaging film, and there is always something mesmeric in McCartney's face: cherubic, and yet sharp and watchful. Go to Full Review

Mary A @Pixie218 58m With all the material out there about the Beatles and Sir Paul individually, I wasn’t sure what was left to tell. The footage and storytelling in this film revealed the struggle to cope with the ending of the most significant band in rock history. It gave insight into the vulnerability and fear that Paul experienced and yet had an upbeat and optimistic feel all the way through. SPOILER ALERT: I found it fascinating that he formed Wings and put the band through the same process towards success that the Beatles experienced even though he could have called on industry favors to bypass touring in a minivan! The footage was fresh and the story was captivating. See more John T @Rukidin 1h Watching this film felt like paging through my own autobiography. I’ve carried Paul McCartney’s voice in my head for nearly fifty-nine years; his songs have marked both the quiet crossroads and the pivotal turning points of my life. To me, he remains one of the most life-affirming figures in modern music. The film acknowledges the shadows as well. It traces his losses and moments of self-doubt, yet highlights his enduring drive to create songs that have become part of so many personal soundtracks. The director moves chronologically, weaving archival footage, some rarely seen, with inventive visual interludes that spotlight key songs. The story builds toward John Lennon’s death and the end of Wings in 1980, treating both with restraint and dignity, while honoring Linda McCartney’s steadfast and positive influence. For devotees of The Beatles or Wings, this film will likely feel less like a documentary and more like a reunion. It certainly left me misty-eyed. See more James C. @jmc63 1h Excellent!
