It’s not necessarily a bad thing for a movie to leave you wanting more. Here, however, it seems to be a matter of misplaced priorities, as storytelling takes a backseat to cool imagery and wildly (one might even say nauseously) mobile camerawork.

...Other Mommy is highly imperfect as it pulls itself in too many directions, attempting to look profound and also be a pulpy horror. The film is not an excellent horror, but you can't hate it for its imperfections either.

Yes the characters are dumb, the subtext is very surface level, and it doesn’t push its R rating enough…BUT this movie right from the get go is WEIRD. Very dreamlike. I thought they balanced what was reality and fantasy very well and it comes with a few surprises. Jessica Chastain is also a MAJOR plus she’s just as fantastic as she usually is. The plot is very simple, but it’s so fast paced you barely have time to think about anything other than the threat. I will say the ending does lose steam quite a bit with the resolution feeling underbaked. The script just didn’t have enough bite to it which was disappointing. But all in all, I was entertained and glad I saw it.
