This is an unimaginatively faithful remake that leaves the original intact, complete with songs co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. But the replacement of animated beings with live actors manages to ramp up the folkloric kitsch considerably.

One of Disney's best live-action adaptations. This movie celebrates the culture and stays true to the original animation. However, as usual, Dwayne Johnson's "Rock" persona is a little strong and feels out of place. Maui scenes come off as stiff.

As a grandmother who saw both previous animated Moana versions with my grandkids, I expected to nod off during this movie. But I actually loved it! Casting is brilliant. I loved how they attempted to recreate every scene from the original animated version and really didn’t deviate from it. Grandkids thought it was great too.

We loved the movie. 9 year old daughter said she loved it better than the original animation. Definitely will be buying the movie when it comes out on DVD.

This movie was well done. It stuck close to the cartoon adaptation and my kids and I loved it. My kids especially like that it was so faithful to the original including the music.
