Alain E @AlainE Jun 11 Well constructed existentialist movie. We follow the hero in his serial hookups. Once he has gained access to a girl, he is off to a new one. If he gets rejected, he will try by any means to have at least a one night stand. The movie lasts an hour forty minutes, but it could have been two, three or one hundred hours. There is no indication that the hero learns anything from his different experiences. I liked the opening with only dialog that showed James having commitment issues right off the bat. I think we are all looking for things sometimes we can't find. It's relatable. See more 05/11/2017 Taking themes that have held audiences' attention for ages and somehow managing to make them boring, Long Nights Short Mornings is a sloppily acted, poorly written Netflix production with few redeeming moments. See more 05/03/2017 Dating (or just gallivanting around) -- whew, boy, it's rough out there...and somewhat laborious to watch when the characters are as vacuous as this. Still, it did keep me somewhat interested 'till the end, mostly with the hope that somewhere in the string of encounters with our transient and troubled protagonist a character with some measure of depth would show up . No such character ever did. Shiloh Fernandez, playing James, the driving force of the narrative, seems to be doing a brooding, frowning mishmash version of James Dean+River Phoenix via the young Marlon Brando...which seems to have its effect on many a women-folk. See more 04/27/2017 I feel like not enough people have reviewed this, because the current score of 70% is way too damn high. At the start, I thought this might be a sincere examination of the modern love, but by the halfway part I was vomiting in my mouth. Contrived, well shot, some ridiculous vignettes: (the ONE black woman is crazy? Of course), lead actor problems: (trying very hard to "blue steel" his way through scenes)... I kept hoping the film's characters would become more self-aware, but they never did. Why these gorgeous, talented women kept throwing themselves at this emotionally stunted liar, I'll never know. I guess the sex was great? There is a great scene (*minor spoiler*) where we watch the lead character malfunction, and I thought "Oh! This is where he finally becomes self-aware!" Nope.
