Steven H @RT76977589 Jun 9 I think when you see a low rating like the one this movie has you go into it with low expectations. That's kind of my thing though. Having low expectations especially for the academy award winner for best picture over the last 50 years. I enjoyed very few of them. Back to this movie. I actually liked it! I gave three stars because I felt they could have used a better technical advisor. Especially when the characters were traveling through the jungle. No camouflage. No blackened faces. I saw some of the gear flapping around eliminating any noise discipline. The pyrotechnics used for the explosions was better than expected. Then, during the gun battles, I don't recall seeing any magazines replaced. It could have been better. It could have been worse. But to each their own. The performances across the board were strong, with no weak links in the cast. The script works well overall, the scenery is effective, and the film is anchored by consistently solid acting. Eden Brolin exceeded expectations. I assumed she may have benefited from her lineage, especially since I’m a big fan of her father, Josh Brolin, but she clearly shows real training and discipline. She holds her own and is very likely a rising star. Frank Grillo continues to be reliably excellent. I always give his films a chance, and once again he delivers. The action is very well done and largely maintains suspension of disbelief. While a couple of scenes feel overdone, most of it is bang on. There are a few narrative choices that don’t fully make sense, but the film’s strengths easily outweigh its weaknesses. Who the hell is paying the budget for these movies and actors. I assume they had an ammo artic lorry following them around to fill up on bullets !!
