Critics Consensus

Director Lee Cronin's take on The Mummy injects some juicy gore and personal stakes into the classic horror setup, but the scares in this gross-out extravaganza get entombed by a padded running time.

The director mostly reshapes what a mummy actually is to suit his lackluster whims. Go to Full Review

All these moments are good for audience groans and there’s an enjoyable bad movie here for the seizing. Go to Full Review

A gory supernatural thriller inspired by Ari Aster and David Fincher. It’s a possession film aimed at grossing you out visually and creeping you out with a nice sound mix that places you in the center of this thrilling, whacked-out nightmare. Go to Full Review

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy lacks that bite in its evil entity, and if the film isn’t fueled by a millennia-long sense of ire, there’s not much that separates it from the standard horror of a popcorn flick. Go to Full Review

A raucous wake scene midway through the plot is the surprise and delight moment of the film, an absurd, queasy centerpiece that any fan of horror or plain old audacity should appreciate. Go to Full Review

Christopher 29m A great Mummy story in the Evil Dead universe! See more christopher Y 46m pretty pretty pretty good. See more Event Horizon Podcast 49m The grotesque horror of this movie is at the same level as the 1973 movie “The Exorcist.” See more Elise 54m Have to give credit where credit is due. Cronin swung for the fences on a reimagining of The Mummy, one dominated by the Stephen Sommers films for over two decades. And he went right into horror, stripping the concept of any adventure, action, romance, or period piece romanticization. Cronin's Mummy is as nasty and gross as advertised. Someone said it's part Exorcist and part Evil Dead, an apt description for mixing demonic possession, body horror, and deteriorating family dynamics (Cronin did 2023's Evil Dead Rise). Could its depiction of Egypt, Arabs, and child abuse victims be somewhat problematic in our current climate? Yeah. The inclusion of the Middle East felt more obligatory due to the "mummy" aspect than vital to the story it was telling. Overall, it certainly put in the effort but I felt very little from this film, aside from occasionally flinching away from the screen. Wouldn't want to watch it again or recommend it to others. See more Kayla T 1h Too over-the-top. The scenes of the movie that were supposed to scare you the most was just excessive ways to gross someone out. The story line lacked development too. Has some entertaining parts. See more Google 1h After seeing Lee Cronins The Mummy with my mom, I can safely say that honestly I thought it was really good, although I do. see why others felt it wasn't good, because the Title The Mummy is not too accurate within the films portal, but with its graphic, gore feast, and skincrawling moments, it definitely stands as a thrilling Horror flick. I recommend for those looking for something truly Nightmare fueled as this. See more Read all reviews
