Thirty years after serving together in the Vietnam War, Larry "Doc" Shepherd, Sal Nealon and the Rev. Richard Mueller reunite for a different type of mission, to bury Doc's son, a young Marine killed in Iraq. Forgoing burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Doc and his old buddies take the casket on a bittersweet trip up the coast to New Hampshire. Along the way, the three men find themselves reminiscing and coming to terms with the shared memories of a war that continues to shape their lives.

I’ll concede: A normal Linklater hang-out movie is mapped on top of a sober Iraq drama, and the mixture doesn’t mesh...Linklater has often proven that perhaps any kind of theme or setting can be reshaped in his mold; this time, it doesn’t take.

An Absolutely beautiful film. I saw who the 3 main actors were and thought I am going to watch this even though I had no idea what it was about. I highly recommend this. I laughed and I cried, just fabulous.

This is the kind of classic story telling not seen much in films any more. Three great actors on a journey together. It’s a little snapshot in time. Is it a masterpiece? Definitely not. Yet it’s a compelling and humble story that doesn’t pretend to have answers to the big questions of life, instead it just shares the perspectives of the characters involved. I found that very fitting.

I honestly thought this was going to be worse based on these reviews. This film captures a specific moment in history with firm roots in another. It was well acted, at times clumsily scripted with it's brevity but also lands well half the time in the right places. it was careful with the subject that made gave it its heft. Overall worth the watch.

With all the cookie cutter series available on most platforms today, and all the filler type movies that are being pumped out, this was a gem. The cast has some real chemistry, and run the viewer through a gamut of emotions including quite a bit of humor. Treat yourself, check it out. There are so few sleepers out their nowadays.
