Critics Consensus

Larded up with too much blubber and not enough bite to justify the tedium, this disappointing survival thriller is beached upon arrival.

There are a couple of decent plot twists and reveals, but not enough to stop you from checking out until the next bit with the whale comes up.

If you’ve seen 47 Meters Down or Lionsgate’s Fall, which also stars Virginia Gardner, this straightforward aquatic thriller adheres to the exact same formula with very little in the way of deviation.

Almost nothing [Brechin] could do would spin this everyday hay into gold, but she can remind us why we keep hay around in the first place.

And so Killer Whale takes its place among the lesser of the more recent Jaws imitators, hovering somewhere below Beast of War and above the god-awful The Black Demon.

Why a film shot in Queensland has to green screen the beach I will never know. The only thing worse than the dodgy CGI and obvious green screen is the woeful screenplay.

A killer whale horror movie should either leave you thrilled or laughing along with the madness, where this one mostly just drifts along before beaching itself completely.

Equally entertaining and annoying. Starts off okay, gets very slow towards the end. Constant whiny cello music and slow-motion flashbacks.

Was ok but I wouldn't recommend. I was with a few others. We all thought it was bad because of the inconsistencies are the script. When the main actor first saw a dead body of in a tank, she seemed to forget right away rather than getting help. It was just kinda lame. Disappointed.

Killer Whale attempts to do for apex marine mammals what The Shallows and 47 Meters Down did for sharks, but it completely belly-flops under the weight of an absurd screenplay and laughable visual effects. The script feels like it was pieced together from discarded creature-feature tropes and bad soap opera twists. The setup is convoluted beyond belief: a grieving, hearing-impaired cellist is taken to Thailand by her influencer best friend to heal, only for them to drunkenly trespass into a shoddy marine park, witness a captive orca name Ceto kill a worker, and then somehow encounter that exact same whale when the park hastily dumps it into the open ocean. terrible movie. avoid at all costs
