Afghanistan has been plagued by war for decades, and its seemingly endless conflicts are the subject of this unflinching documentary, which was made before the 9/11 attacks on America. The film follows Gino Strada, an Italian doctor, and his dedicated team as they bring medical aid to Northern Alliance fighters and attempt to establish a hospital within a city. While the production sheds light on the struggle to rid Afghanistan of the Taliban, it focuses largely on the human cost of war.

Valuable both as an historical document ... and for its unsparing and graphic depiction of the human toll of warfare and repression. Go to Full Review Andrew Sarris Observer Nov 29, 2001
Jung is nothing if not timely, relevant and resonant in its heroic humanism in the face of the seemingly endless suffering of the people in this war-ravaged land. Go to Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com Nov 4, 2007
