There is something very literary about the film, with dialogue line-readings that often sound like the voiceover narration by Michel Subor. Go to Full Review Carrie Rickey The Dissolve Feb 18, 2014

n the male dominated world of the French New Wave, Catherine in François Truffaut’s Jules and Jim stands out as a mysterious and particularly beguiling female presence. Go to Full Review Pauline Kael Partisan Review Sep 11, 2023
Jules and Jim is the most exciting movie made in the West since L’Avventura and Breathless and Truffaut’s earlier Shoot the Piano Player; because of the beauty and warmth of its images, it is a richer, a more satisfying film than any of them. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Robert P @Superbad Sep 4, 2026 Jules and Jim = a *4 and 1/2 star movie See more Scott M @RT75128960 Jun 15, 2026 A lot of dialog in this film about people's feelings. Very much a chick flick. I enjoyed the first 30 minutes. Sort of. The story just isn't for me. See more Julian Rex M @Julian_M Aug 3, 2025 A slowly spinning gyre of obsession, lust, hatred, and revenge, Jules and Jim may frustrate some with its daring blend of absurdity and real-life grit, but François Truffaut's assured execution of the script in combination with several moments of ingenious technical wizardry keep this genre-bending yarn from dipping its head into enervation--if not far from it. See more George L @RT80900284 Aug 1, 2025 overrated in my view, and the heroines mood swings become too much and tiring. can't find the answer why this is a top movie in the reviews which give it 5 stars See more Will G @Wgoodeve Mar 11, 2025 A great French new wave film. It was made by Francois Truffaut. It was about two men, Jules and Jim, who both like a girl named Catherine. The scenes of France were great and I liked to practice my French. See more Evan B @RT44517462 Feb 6, 2025 An incredible film that revels in the immediate joys of the world - friendship, eros, fun and youth - in order to convey a tragic irony: love comes with a cost. The friendship of the titular characters is charming, Catherine is simultaneously beguiling and terrifying, and at the end I was left wondering what exactly happened, why, and whether the Gallic or Teutonic mindset won out as a worldview... A must-see! See more Read all reviews
