After carefree teenager Jay (Maika Monroe) sleeps with her new boyfriend, Hugh (Jake Weary), for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse. Death, Jay learns, will creep inexorably toward her as either a friend or a stranger. Jay's friends don't believe her seemingly paranoid ravings, until they too begin to see the phantom assassins and band together to help her flee or defend herself.

I appreciate that Mitchell wanted to make this more existentially dreadful and not confine himself and his characters to working within a set of rules, but... there’s ambiguity, and there’s simply being vague.

It Follows feels like a new thing in horror. It feels like a movement toward the conceptual idea of what drives horror. Strip down the overburdened tropes and monsters that make up what horror was for decades, and leave just the essentials.

The cause of the new suburb and the way back to it was extremely weak and not thought out. Lazy writing. The ending was very wierd and not logical. The only good thing about it was the middle of the movie when they were attacked. It was extreemly well done.
