Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise) is a military lawyer defending two U.S. Marines charged with killing a fellow Marine at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. Although Kaffee is known for seeking plea bargains, a fellow lawyer, Lt. Cdr. JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore), convinces him that the accused marines were most likely carrying out an order from a commanding officer. Kaffee takes a risk by calling Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) to the stand in an effort to uncover the conspiracy.

Critics Consensus

An old-fashioned courtroom drama with a contemporary edge, A Few Good Men succeeds on the strength of its stars, with Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and especially Jack Nicholson delivering powerful performances that more than compensate for the predictable plot.

Tom Cruise, equal parts mettle and dazzle, erupts with a fully fleshed lead performance that should finally bring him his just due as an actor, while Jack Nicholson forges a terrific performance as an ironpants militarist.

Like 1954's The Caine Mutiny, which was equally slick and imperfect, it's finally put over by a money cast and killer courtroom climax.

In terms of performance, there is hardly a false note sounded anywhere in the film.

Watching "A Few Good Men" is like strolling into an elegant showroom, finding a beautiful car, stroking its polished skin, enjoying the deluxe interior -- and then looking under the hood to find there's no motor.

As a lawyer, this movie lacks ethics and common sence case management.

I've seen this a few times. On reflection and with a closer look the film is vastly overrated film... Moore adds the beauty factor. Great performances from supporting actors. Nicholson never fails to deliver and steals scenes [but seems uncomfortable with the ending] whilst Cruise falls into the trap of over playing and cooking his part with the couldn't care less boyish histrionics... the film scfipt has too many holes for the story to be great and not enough depth... The court room ending is too easy and falls into cliche ending with cheese. Officer on board... bring me the sicky bag... yes entertaining smooth but vastly overrated. Take away Nicholson and you'd need predictable Hackman to sell it. A tighter script and better drawn characters..

This is a very good watch, kind of slow at times, if you're not into listening and really thinking about characters then you'll still have a decent time but not quite as good. Overall excellent acting, great story, all time classic and must watch military drama.
