Thanks to a strong performance from Jake Gyllenhaal and smart direction from Denis Villeneuve, Enemy hits the mark as a tense, uncommonly adventurous thriller.

Gyllenhaal faces the tricky task of conveying the subtle differences of two men whose identities are thrown into flux. The result is his most nuanced performance since playing another sleuth caught out of his depth in Zodiac. Go to Full Review

Assessed on a level of tone and aesthetic, Villeneuve’s film is a stunning work. It is oppressive and unsettling, achieving Lynchian levels of discomfort and uncertainty. Go to Full Review

Enemy is brimming with non-commercial bravado that borders on being confessional. Just as Hitchcock made manifest his voyeuristic and controlling proclivities, Villeneuve exposes his own conflicted feelings towards women and monogamy. Go to Full Review

Torben E @Torben 3d Love this movie and watched it several times. If you like mind-bending stories (or let's call it here "mindfuck"-movies) like basically every single movie by the late David Lynch (who was a true visionary and had a brilliant mind) then you will probably like this movie too. One of Denis Villeneuve's best works. There's an obvious part of its story and then there are the things you have to look for. Read between the lines, watch out for subtle messages respectively innuendos and think about the things you just saw. This movie tells a much deeper darker story than what you would expect from reading the summary. All actors are simply amazing but especially Jake Gyllenhaal and Sarah Gadon give 10/10 performances. They have great chemistry and it's a pleasure to watch their characters react to the unfolding mystery that is surrounding them. And do yourself a favor and watch the movie twice; at least if you are a true cinephile.
