Marco L @decatur555 Aug 5 The Darjeeling Limited has beautiful images, strong performances and a clear idea beneath all its eccentricity: three estranged brothers travelling through India while trying to reconnect with one another and face their family history. The problem is that I never fully connected with it. Wes Anderson’s absolute control over every colour, object and composition gives the film personality, but also creates a great deal of distance. Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman work well together, and the film becomes more effective when the jokes give way to genuine pain. Yet too much of it feels deliberately strange rather than meaningful. I understand what it wants to say about grief, family and spiritual journeys, but the story often seemed shapeless and a little silly to me. Beautiful to look at, but emotionally difficult to enter. The actors, main & supporting, are all excellent & perfectly cast. This made me see Owen Wilson in a whole new light; refreshing. Great story line & non-stop adventure. See more Regina T @Ginabear4 Feb 25 One of the most soulless pieces I’ve ever seen which says alot considering it’s about three brothers on a soul journey. The directing is interesting but how you can play out a movie in India without ever truly capturing the people and the true spirit is insulting to its culture. He literally uses India as an aesthetic backround and a playground for the main characters. The only Indian characters they give any stage to is the train officer and the hostess on the train both are given British accents and do not play traditional Indians.
