Coraline seems to have grown into an allegory that it was never meant to be. I honestly can’t think of a better analogy for our current algorithm-driven existence that promises to give us just what we want Go to Full Review

This movie scarred me when I was five years old so I never watched it again until now. It is a fun creepy stop motion movie with great characters and a good story. I think I love it even more because I am so proud of myself for finally finishing it. Coraline (2009), a stop-motion film from Laika, follows her to the ideal world that’s "perfect" to her. We get to see Coraline’s dull, boring new home as she explores, until she stumbles upon a tiny door. I’ve watched this film a dozen times, and each time I see a new detail that first-time viewers may overlook. Coraline is crafted in a way that allows you feel warmth and lulls you in like The Other Mother does to Coraline, until we’re met with a dark twist. When I first watched Coraline when I was younger, I was so intrigued by the animation style. I’d have to give this movie a 5/5 not just because it holds a special spot in my favorite movies, but because the craft of this movie is so amazing! I do hate how mean she is to Wybie at the start though, poor bud- but in the end it suits her character and her emotional state at the time!
