BULL is a revenge thriller like no other. Ferocious, audacious, and blood-soaked, the latest from BAFTA-winning writer/director Paul Andrew Williams stars Neil Maskell as a vicious mob enforcer seeking revenge on the gang that double-crossed him. Ten years after he was last seen, Bull (Maskell) returns home to methodically track down those who betrayed him and find his beloved son. With the ominous warning: "I'm coming for all of them," Bull stalks his former gang, leading up to a savage showdown between his wife and her mob boss father (David Hayman).

Critics Consensus

Bull isn't for the faint of heart, but this down and dirty revenge thriller packs a charge for fans of old-school crime dramas.

What makes it so watchable, even despite the stomach-churning violence, is Williams’s clever, non-chronological narrative, which layers in the suggestion that all riddles will be answered with one closing knockout revelation.

A lean, mean ride that wallops you with surprising emotional force at the end. Wow. Just wow.

Maskell stars as the titular Bull in this violent thriller that can't decide whether it wants to be taken seriously or give audiences a bloody good ride.

A brutal tale told with an unflinching callousness whilst offering little reward or glory, only twisted revenge.

“Williams’ reliance on violence doesn’t transgress in ‘Bull,’ it merely toes the line. Imagine what he could do if he really let himself go.”

What I thought might come to a logical conclusion instead became a ridiculous farce

This is a great movie! Good story and the way the director tells it, out of sequence, through flashbacks, keeps the story fresh and engaging from beginning to end. More than just a violent revenge story, it’s also a bit of a mystery. Loved it!

This is a bad movie. There's no science fiction. It's a weak revenge story with some gore. Protagonist always in the right spot to win. Can't say more without telling the story. Just skip it.

Good movie. Dark and entertaining revenge with a twist!! Best movie of its type I have seen in quite a while!

It felt like the filmmaker got 99% done and then decided to drop in a plot device that wraps up the story in a tight little bow. Some call it clever… I call it lazy.

Bull (2023) is an 88-minute-long British suspense I saw on Prime in 2026. SPOILER ALERTS. This violent, vengeance-filled and -fuelled film ends with a plot twist that is best described as a cheap trick or is worst described as a bait-and-switch. Bull reminded me of Brickhead by personality and of David Brent by appearance. There are no good or redeeming characters (with speaking roles) in this film except the child, Aiden. Well, maybe the butcher who is extorted and de-fingered… Perhaps I am being hyperbolic? Any character who is more than a lamp post warrant no sympathy, so the violence seems gratuitous. Which, it is. This could be a false correlation however I have seen enough films where the writer, producer and director are the same person and faults seep through (the key fault for me is that bait-and-switch plot twist ending as well as that Bull exist is a world without police implications at all)… Rewatch? No. Recommend? No. 4/10.
