The Toro cheerleading squad from Rancho Carne High School in San Diego has got spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that's sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. But for newly-elected team captain Torrance, the Toros' road to total cheer glory takes a shady turn when she discovers that their perfectly-choreographed routines were in fact stolen from the Clovers, a hip-hop squad from East Compton, by the Toros' former captain.

Critics Consensus

Despite the formulaic, fluffy storyline, this movie is surprisingly fun to watch, mostly due to its high energy and how it humorously spoofs cheerleading instead of taking itself too seriously.

...both the very beginning and the very end [of the film] really effectively build this kind of really funny, silly mood that I did very much enjoy revisiting...[The film] is just of its time. Go to Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Dec 22, 2010

Smart, sassy movie, but expect raunchy humor, language. Go to Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Jul 25, 2007
This earnest and arch story -- so fast paced its formulas are wonderfully obscured -- has an adolescent energy and a tempered sexuality, and it's infused with the moral agenda of a warmly didactic sitcom. Go to Full Review Aisha Harris Pop Culture Happy Hour (NPR Podcast) Aug 15, 2025
It really is ahead of its time. I still can't think of another teen movie that at least attempts to do the things that it does with cultural appropriation...they could have gone farther...But overall, Bring It On still bringing it 20 years later. Amid all its convincing choreography and tossing bodies 20 feet into the air, Bring It On rides the line between satire and teenage dramedy. That’s a disastrous liminal space if handled carelessly. Go to Full Review Josh Winning Radio Times Oct 25, 2024

With its rapid-fire jokes, knowing sense of the absurd and impressive dance routines, this tonally perfect romp will have you cheering - and chuckling - from start to finish. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Robert P @Superbad Sep 13, 2026 Bring it on = a *3.5* star Movie... **⭐ MINHA NOTA: 5/10** See more Josh G @Parsifal83 Aug 1, 2026 More product than movie, Bring It On coasts on familiar clichés and shallow characters. It plays like a time capsule of late-'90s pop culture without capturing any of the wit or charm that made the era's best comedies endure.
