After her marriage to a wealthy businessman (Alec Baldwin) collapses, New York socialite Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) flees to San Francisco and the modest apartment of her sister, Ginger (Sally Hawkins). Although she's in a fragile emotional state and lacks job skills, Jasmine still manages to voice her disapproval of Ginger's boyfriend, Chili (Bobby Cannavale). Jasmine begrudgingly takes a job in a dentist's office, while Ginger begins dating a man (Louis C.K.) who's a step up from Chili.

Blue Jasmine weaponises Blanchett's elegant image against us, showing a character who is trying with all her might to maintain this glamour that is falling down around her. Seriously, she's amazing in this one.

I grew up in a Brooklyn housing project, in the ‘60s. I resent Manhattan snobs as much as anyone. I distinctly remember snobs staring at my Timex watch and Thom McAn shoes and judging my worth, in skyscraper elevators. But I grew up and realized money doesn’t buy happiness. Only a loving family, which I worked hard for, and I have now. So I started watching this movie even though I usually don’t like Alec Baldwin movies. I didn’t realize it was a Woody Allen movie. I usually avoid his neurotic stereotypes about Jews and New Yorkers. The movie started out with an intriguing premise, but it’s so trite. I thought Ginger and Andrew Dice Clay’s character were interesting, but I bailed anyway. When I saw his lottery earnings were going to be embezzled, I thought I don’t need to wallow in this hateful dreck. I will look at some Andrew Dice Clay movies. He seems to have matured. Nerdy Woody Allen is still getting even with his childhood bullies evidently.

Let me tell you how I found out about this movie. I heard somebody mentioning it on Youtube and when I heard what’s it about I was f*ckn sold. It’s about a socialite Jasmine who basically lost everything and was forced to move to her sister who lives with her two kids and has a completely opposite lifestyle of what Jasmine was used to. She got a taste of what it’s like to have a job, forget about the comfort and to face the same challenges ordinarily people have to deal with in the everyday life. This was entertaining and sometimes painful to watch how she was struggling because Kate was so convincing, she nailed it. I really enjoyed watching this movie.
